I am Irina De Vicente, an artist and specialist in traditional Russian painting.

I work with ornament as a visual language, where meaning and decoration are inseparable.

For years I have taught Khokhloma and other forms of Russian folk art to students from all over the world in three languages (Russian, English, and Spanish). More than 1,000 students have taken my courses, where they learn not only to paint, but also to understand the internal structure of traditional ornamentation.

Russian folk painting is not merely decoration: it is a symbolic system developed over centuries. Every stroke, every element, and every compositional rhythm has an internal logic. In the case of Khokhloma, for example, the entire ornamental universe is constructed from a few basic elements combined with precision and sensitivity.
